| | Honey's Gone My Honey's head no longer rests upon my breast
With its share of tenderness;
My Honey's voice no longer soothes
The weariness within;
My Honey's arms no longer twine
Nor hold me dear;
My Honey's gone
Yet I am here.
His soul's dear dust is scattered now
Upon the hill, into the sea,
He visits now upon the wind
And when the wind laughs, 'tis he.
I miss him still, though he bends
To whisper in my ear.
Thy Honey's gone
Thy Honey's gone,
But Thou art here.
My friends still dine and laugh and sing
With me among them, aye.
We plan and scheme and earn our bread
We weary and we welcome bed
But for me there's no sweet head
That solaces my rest
My Honey's gone
My Honey's gone,
My Honey's gone,
I am bereft. |
